Liverpool are set to undergo significant changes as Jurgen Klopp's reign as manager draws to a close, and prospective new boss Arne Slot could look to his current club, Feyenoord, for reinforcements.

One name tipped to join Liverpool is versatile defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

Reports suggest that Slot is nearing the Liverpool job after the club agreed on a compensation fee to release him from his Feyenoord contract at the end of the season.

The Dutchman has impressed with his successful spell in Rotterdam, guiding Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie title in six years in 2023, following a strong Europa Conference League campaign.

Would Geertruida make for a good Liverpool player?

Geertruida, a key player under Slot, has caught the eye with his versatility and ability to play across the backline and in midfield.

His adaptability and strong physical attributes make him an attractive prospect for Liverpool as they plan for a new era post-Klopp.

The 23-year-old has demonstrated the technical ability and consistency required for the Premier League.

A report from De Telegraaf has suggested that the 23-year-old "would love" to join the Reds.

De Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen, however, has warned Slot to avoid bringing too many players from the Netherlands to Liverpool, as Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag did in his first season at Old Trafford.

He does say, though, that Geertruida could be an exception.

Speaking on De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast, Driessen highlighted Geertruida's potential to excel at Liverpool due to his versatility and adaptability.

He said: "I think Geertruida, because surely he can be deployed in a number of positions that might be less occupied at Liverpool."

While Slot may be cautious about focusing too heavily on players from the Dutch league, Geertruida's attributes could make him an ideal addition to the Liverpool squad.

With his experience playing under Slot at Feyenoord, he could help ensure a smooth transition to the new manager's system and style.

As Liverpool prepare for life without Klopp, Slot's possible appointment is generating excitement among fans.

His connections to Feyenoord could bring new talent to Anfield, with Geertruida potentially leading the way as one of the first signings in the new era.

A move to sign him would cost around €30 million (£25.7m) based on a report from Bild in 2023 when RB Leipzig tried to sign Geertruida.
