Ian Wright explains why he's "quite excited" to see Arne Slot manage Liverpool

Arne Slot, the highly-regarded Feyenoord head coach, is set to become the new manager of Liverpool, a move that has created a wave of excitement among fans and football pundits alike.

The 45-year-old Dutchman will take over from Jurgen Klopp, who is stepping down at the end of the current season.

While Slot's appointment brings a new era to Anfield, it's also stirring enthusiasm among football personalities, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright sharing his thoughts on why this is such an exciting development for the Reds.

Why Ian Wright is excited about Arne Slot managing Liverpool

Speaking on Premier League Productions (29/04/24 at 14:45 pm), Wright explained his concerns the Dutchman Slot will need to face.

Yet despite the challenge ahead, he's excited to see the new manager arrive at Anfield.

Wright said: “Trying to bring in that level of manager after Klopp is going to be very difficult to find."

He continued: “I think it’s one of those that it might turn out to be okay. Depending on how he goes in, bigs his chest up when he gets into that dressing room. That’s a job you can’t refuse, I believe as a football manager whenever it comes, you probably aren’t going to refuse it.

"He was talking about the levels and what he needs to be. We saw that with ten Hag and how it hasn’t worked out for him at Manchester United.

“I think the way this guy comes in, and I have heard about him coaching. How he loves being out there and the players like what he does. Whether that can translate into the Premier League and it can work here. I don’t think that transitional high pressing can (work).

"You have to have something else to sustain it. This is why we are looking at ten Hag and the way he plays and it can’t work. I think, with this guy, what he has done and going to that club. I am quite excited for them simply because it’s a massive club. I hope that it can work out.”

Liverpool fans should be excited even if this isn't a happy ending

We all dreamed of seeing Jurgen Klopp leave Anfield after nine years on the back of an historic quadruple.

That has not happened with Liverpool now likely to end the season with just one new trophy after lifting the Carabao Cup in late-February.

Yet, despite the disappointing end to the season and Klopp's heartbreaking imminent farewell, the future is still promising.

Slot is soon to arrive and Liverpool are working on extending the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The future may be daunting but Klopp has laid down incredible foundations for a new manager to come in.

Wright is correct to say that it won't necessarily be plain sailing even if Slot also employs high pressing in his tactics but the chance for continuity is there.
